What is Prosecco?
Prosecco is one of the most versatile wines on the market. Few wines can be enjoyed before a meal
as an aperitif, during a meal, or after the meal with dessert. You can enjoy it mixed with fresh juices,
with oysters or even with birthday cake?
Recent History
By decree dated July 17, 2009, the Italian Minister of Agriculture officially recognized the Prosecco D.O.C.
Under European law, the name “Prosecco” changed to a geographic appellation designation and no longer
to the vine variety. The grape variety was changed to the historic botanical name, Glera.
Every bottle of Prosecco DOC and DOCG can be identified by its Government Quality Label. The seal for the DOC
is blue in color with a univocal alphanumeric identification code for each bottle. It shows the volume of the bottle;
DOC symbol and the State seal.
Production Areas
Prosecco DOC consists of the five Veneto provinces: Treviso, Venice, Vicenza, Padua and Belluno and the four
Friuli Venezia Giulia provinces: Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste and Udine.
Prosecco Styles
Prosecco can be produced in three different styles:
Spumante style is the most popular.
