The Central Valley in Chile is their main wine growing region. It accounts for approximately 80% of the their wine production. The Central Valley stretches about 400 kilometers from north to south. Its large size and variable topography has a broad range of climate conditions, soils and styles.
Vineyards are planted on coastal plains, the foothills of the Andes and at altitudes up to 750 meters. Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Carmenere grapes are grown across the region.
Chilean Carménère is a beautiful, medium-bodied, fruit-forward wine. With gentle tannins, and a deep crimson color, you can expect an array of berries, red fruits, spice, smokiness and earth on both the nose and palate.
While the grape is indigenous to Bordeaux, France, Chile is considered the modern hotspot for its cultivation. These wines will go great with savory stews, fresh cheese, and roasted peppers.
